Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields Breaks Records

The sweltering summer heat brings contrast to the coolest events the music community has to offer—Lollapalooza, Burning Man, Summerfest—the list goes on. But among the hype, a newcomer stood out with a message: support women, help one another, and make the world a better place. Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields debuted late August and brought an all-star lineup of female performers. Featuring big-name artists like Chappell Roan, Mitski, Doechii, and Rodrigo herself, it’s no surprise that the festival was quickly sold out.

And those are just the representatives of the new generation in musical mastery—the festival captured even more value in acting as a platform for legacy icons from the ‘90s and before to make their return: a 78-year-old Stevie Nicks joined Rodrigo on stage for a modern duet of her “Landslide,” and pioneer alt rock bands Garbage and Bikini Kill showed out for full sets. Even more impressive than the roster of performers was the collective purpose they shared.

The event set a goal to bring donations for 10 women-focused nonprofits—from reproductive rights and maternal health to gender equity. Every performer put on a show for a message bigger than themselves—a message they believed in. And implicitly, so did the public—45,000 tickets were sold, totaling over $10 million for charity. Combined with ticket sales came another $10 million pledge from Pivotal, the organization built by Melinda French Gates in order to support work benefitting young women.
