Senior Nick Gaughan, constantly delivering strong rounds and being an ideal captain throughout the season, has played a key role in the varsity golf team's success. He encourages his teammates to play to their fullest potential, especially in tough matches that are crucial to win, like those in the Ches-Mont League.
Gaughan, or "Nicky G" to his fellow golf players, keeps a strong connection with his teammates. "The retreat at the beginning of the season each year really helps the underclassmen become close with the upperclassmen. We all play with each other during the off season as well; even though golf is an individual sport, we all maintain a close bond with one another." Gaughan believes that an incredible part of the golf season is the environment with his fellow players. He also mentioned that though the varsity roster and the junior varsity played different events, some matches were mixed, improving team bonding.
Gaughan will forever be remembered as a hard-working, persistent, and competitive student-athlete at the high school. He is a strong display of good work ethic and resilience. One piece of advice for underclassmen: "Just grind."
Now, after winning states with his team, Gaughan is furthering his golf career at St. Bonaventure. We all wish him the best of luck!
