Falling for a latte of menus?

Author(s): Charlotte Tilley

We’ve reached the sacred month of September, and that can mean only one thing. Along with the return to school comes a much more anticipated return—Starbucks’s fall drink menu. When a slight chill hits the air in the early hours of the morning, you can rely on one fact: in the most welcome way, familiar pumpkin spice has come back to pervade our days. Picture this: everyone you know, wearing sweaters that will inevitably shed by afternoon in the heat again. You enter the fresh air of Starbucks to pick up orders of iced drinks, topped with caramel, pumpkin cold foam, and occasionally accompanied by a good old fashioned pastry. So, what’s everyone sipping on this year?

The menu features the usual suspects: pumpkin spice lattes to pumpkin muffins. An absolute fall treat is made from chai, espresso, or matcha. This year, new items are present on the menu. As much as we love sticking to our pumpkin spice lattes each time, it’s always fun to mix it up for a change. Plus, this year we have strong new contenders and different ways to dress the flavors up. The first addition adds season into every sip: pecan cold foam in both the Pecan Crunch Oatmilk Latte, Pecan Cortado, and savory treats like the Italian sausage egg bites.

As far as drinks go, students are loving the Pumpkin Chai as well as the perennial Iced Chai Latte. Additionally, a favorite sweet treat among the fanbase seems to be the raccoon cake pops or the baked apple croissant. The full menu has not been released yet; extra fall and Halloween treats have been hinted at by Starbucks to slowly be revealed by the first of October. Some whispers down the lane have concluded that this year’s lineup consists of novel and mysterious mummy cookies and apple crisp flavor.

The company’s main competitor, Dunkin’, also recently released their own fall menu. The industry included their trendy cereal milk latte, spider donuts, and their own take on Starbucks’ infamous pumpkin spice latte. Overall, nothing beats some fuel for the heart and taste buds like Starbucks does, especially with its seasonal choices. As the period of harvest vastly approaches us, the competition for the most flavorful goodies rises. These drinks are taking the student population by storm, and the rivalry is as cold as the months to come. Be prepared to bundle up and grab your favorite drink to celebrate the season!
