Girls’ Field Hockey Surges Through the Season

By Ethan Ruslim

Coming off a 3-1 victory against Archbishop Carrol in the first round of the 2025 2A Field Hockey Championship Playoffs, the high school Girls’ Field Hockey Team is continuing its season record of dominant wins.

The team has had an impressive season with a strong record thus far: twelve wins, five losses, and one tie, allowing them to be seeded seventh out of 28 teams for playoffs, easily making them contenders. After the team swept prelims with multiple 4-0s, 8-1 and even 9-1 in previous games, the future is bright as it advances to the semifinals in the championship.

Though they have been met with many challenges this season, from close one-point-different losses and even tying the match with Henderson in a long-fought match ending with 0-0, their biggest challenges await in the matches leading up to the trophy. The girls field hockey team competed at the state semi finals for the first time since 1993. The final being 16-8-1.

Junior Emma Marcotte reflects on the team’s journey thus far, and its future. “This will be the first effort to make it to the states match since 2017,” she states. For the first time in almost a decade, the high school Girls’ Field Hockey team is in a position to reasonably achieve this goal. When asked how they got here, Marcotte replied, “The driving force [is] the captains.” The seniors, Avery Hoffman, Claire Terranova, and Bella Rossman have had especially strong leadership, fostering team chemistry and accountability, pushing the team to do better as a whole.
