Although the school year feels like it has just begun, school activities are in full swing, which includes the biggest production of the year: the Unionville Spring Musical. This year's spring musical has been officially announced as Newsies, a jazzy upbeat musical which is sure to bring life to the high school stage.
Even though opening night is still many months away, this does not mean that the cast and crew are not already hard at work with their preparation for the show. Producing a musical of this scale requires a great deal of time, planning, and dedication. From casting to choreography and set construction to costume design, every element demands attention, which is why preparation starts early.
This year, there is a new chapter for the Unionville musical with new director, Mr. Ray Crozier. Junior Vivian Skidd, an avid participant in the high school's theatre program, shares her enthusiasm by stating, "I think he could bring a lot to the table and I'm really excited to work with him."
The cast is preparing for the upcoming show, especially with the amount of work they will have to put in. The show includes heavy dances, intricate choreography, and an overall challenging yet exciting performance to pull off. Skidd has expressed her excitement about the show, saying, "This is a dance heavy show...I'm really excited to see the choreography with our new choreographer."
Auditions for Newsies are on November 18 and 19, and all students are encouraged to audition. Whether you are new to theatre or have been in the program for years, it is such a fun experience. And whether you audition for a role or serve as a part of the stage crew, the high school theatre program welcomes you!
