Rowing Team Propels to Nationals
By Hunter Gilday
The high school’s rowing team has slowly built a reputation as what can only be described as a regional powerhouse within the public school rowing space. Year after year, the team has produced teams that achieve major championship rounds in state finals as well as many individuals that achieve Division 1 college offers. However, what makes the rowing team so unique is the depth of the program. This year, two teams achieved a State Championship. First, the “Girls Freshman 4” showed the program’s bright future after finishing first in the state just last month. The team also prides itself in incorporating all types of students across the school and elevating them from developing novices into serious competitors. In fact, almost every rower who has come through the high school program has grown from completely novice to a competitor and contributor to some level. Constant practice and hard work has proven that this U Crew team is ready to take on anything thrown their way.
Moreover, the boys Junior eight were able to punch their tickets to nationals, winning the City Championship in impressive fashion. Junior Enzo Messa commented on the impressive accomplishment, saying "it felt like all of our hard work and dedication had finally paid off.” His words marked the accomplishment with the professionalism and perseverance that runs through the heart of the rowing program. The team hopes to place well with Nationals soon on April 26th.
