Spreading Gratitude Across UHS
By Jocelyn Glembocki
‘Twas the beginning of the holiday season, when all through the high school, students began showing appreciation towards teachers, coaches, family members, and friends. While the lunch ladies stocked student’s stomachs with care, they hoped that appreciation would soon be there. Custodians protected the children, and dozens of bus drivers rolled along their routes with dedication in their minds.
As the holiday season approaches, students continue to show their gratitude for the people who shape their daily lives. However, many underappreciated staff members contribute equally. There are countless ways to show appreciation towards the entirety of the local community. Random acts of kindness fuel the success of the high school. Whether giving a small present such as a gift card, making a homemade card with Spread the Smile Club, or even sharing a simple, “Thank you for all you do for our community,” these small gestures make big differences.
The school-wide theme for this school year is gratitude. Throughout November, Thank You Thursdays take place – weekly opportunities to recognize the people that make our community special. Each Thursday, nominees are honored with Gratitude Grams designed by the National Art Honors Society. Every week, one nominee wins a free spirit item and a gift card. Junior Abigail Urbany said, “I love giving my bus driver a gift card every year to show my appreciation!”
The district community’s magical events would not shine the same without all the dedicated staff members, and the high school simply would not function the same without them. A simple “thank-you” can go a long way! Happy holidays to all the district staff, and best wishes for a joyful season ahead.
