The high school’s track and field team performed exceptionally well at the Chesmont Championship on May 6. Combined, the team totaled 83 points, securing a 2nd-place overall finish in the meet, just behind Downingtown West. Individually, the team put up four elite performances: Freshman Jill Cooper placed 5th in the 1600m with a time of 5:11. Junior Nan Stone finished 2nd in the 1600m with a time of 4:24, Senior Robie Elsen placed first in the 800m in 1:55, and Senior Alex Undorf placed first in the pole vault with a height of 14-0. Additionally, in the field events, Senior Carper White recorded a 6-0 in the high jump, and sophomore Andrew Undorf placed second in the javelin. The two’s performance secured a spot for them at the district meet. Overall, between strong performances on the track and in the field, the team showcased its true depth. The team is still very young, and many athletes are returning next year for another bid at districts, states, and beyond.
The high school continued its Chesmont journey through the softball team. Though the team’s starting catcher was injured mid-season, Junior Kylie Henry filled in splendidly. Junior pitcher Peyton Brown, in particular, put on an amazing performance, reaching 200 career strikeouts and 100 for this year alone. Moreover, five individuals qualified to play on the all Chesmonts team. Juniors Cambrie Bouchard, Lily Daniels, and Peyton Brown, as well as Sophomores Layla Goodman, Gracie Brun, and senior Grace Levendis received honorable mentions as well. The team’s efforts come together because of how the team works together. Daniels says, “the team meshed together really well and I’m really proud of us as a team and what we achieved.” This sentiment, shared by many, is the real catalyst for the team’s progress.
