The high schoolâs Bocce team kicked off its season this winter and has had a thrilling start! For those who havenât played Bocce, the game starts by playing against another team and both are trying to throw their balls closest to the pallina â the reference pointâ earning your team points. This sounds simple; however, the high schoolâs bocce is far more skillful and significant than the basics. Their success starts with the team. They work together in their respective teams in order to build a positive environment where they can share laughs, victories, and losses; however, the true beauty behind this sport is the inclusivity. Member Isabella McClain states, âWe want everyone to feel included because thatâs what a team isâ and thatâs exactly what they did.
The Bocce team is founded based on the concept of inclusivity where everyone of any ability is welcomed and supported. No one goes unnoticed. Itâs truly one of the most positive atmospheres students can join. Additionally, they also have lots of fun. From team dinners with pizza and tacos, to Hawaiian and crazy hat themed practices with decorations everywhere, the environment is unbeatable. The season ends with a celebratory bowling party. Throughout all of these events, there is never a dull moment.
Practices are Tuesday and Thursday with meets scattered across multiple dates beaming with energy and teamwork. The teamâs first meet was December 10 and had very successful results with the Blue team winning both of their games and the Gold team winning one of them. Make sure to look out for when their next meet is, so you can go support this lively team. Overall, the high schoolâs Bocce team is one of the most inclusive, hard working, and supportive teams with fun events weekly. It is a great way to make friends and meet people. The sport is a perfect way to get involved at school. If you are interested, email Mr. Meredith!
