Unionville Seniors Prepare for Post-Graduation

By Stephanie McKnight

As the school year comes to a close with less than a month remaining, graduating seniors will be spending the summer planning for college. For many, this summer represents the balance between the preparations and responsibilities of moving to college and making the last memories of high school.

Senior Eva Gaitonde shares that she will be “spending [her] summer mainly working to save up money to pay for college expenses.” In addition to her job at Playa Bowls, she also plans to shadow a physician who will give her first-hand exposure to the medical field, as she plans to study neuroscience in college. Gaitonde hopes that this experience will “confirm [her] passion for a career in neuroscience and deepen [her] understanding of what it means to be a physician,” as medicine is not just looking at brain scans, but also making intense and informed decisions that could save people’s lives.

Senior Mike Savage will also be working much of his last summer before college in preparation. He will “continue to grow [his] own business, Savage Detailing, established in 2024.” Savage will carry the entrepreneurial skills and work ethic he has developed over the years through his company to Penn State. He also plans to “prioritize spending quality time with friends and family before moving away, making as many meaningful memories as possible before the next chapter begins.” He intends to play a lot of golf this summer and will continue to improve his Hacky Sack skills to “play in the big Penn State league.”

Like Gaitonde and Savage, Unionville’s seniors are strategically using their post-graduation time to prepare for the future, appreciate the present, and reflect on their time at the high school. To finish, the seniors gave their final pieces of advice for underclassmen. Savage remarked that “senior year goes fast, so have fun and make memories.” High school will be over in the blink of an eye, so make the memories worth remembering later on in life. Gaitonde also inspires Unionville to keep constantly “working hard to strive for your goals,” reminding underclassmen that dreams are not out of reach with dedication and work ethic.
