Angel Trees Make Holiday Wishes Possible

Each December, Walmart stores in the area partner with the Salvation Army to support the national Angel Tree Program, which provides holiday gifts, clothing, and essentials to more than one million children annually. The program gives shoppers the opportunity to choose a tag from off the tree, read a child’s wish list, and purchase items that will be delivered to families before the holiday season.

For many people, the tradition helps make the holidays meaningful on both sides of the exchange. Judi, a community member who participates every year, reflects that it is ā€œsuch an important and easy thing to do.ā€ For Judi, knowing that she was able to support an underprivileged child lifted her spirits. This season, she selected a tag for a four-year-old girl named Lily, and bought dolls, sneakers, and other age-appropriate toys. Judi explained that picking out the gifts feels nostalgic, reminding her of the excitement she had as a little girl during the holidays.

Organizers note that the following information on each tag, such as sizes, interests, and specific needs, helps ensure the children receive items they can use and enjoy. With many families dealing with tighter budgets this year, the program offers families relief from holiday expenses while ensuring their children still feel included in the season’s celebrations.

Overall, Angel Tree shopping is a very good way to give back this holiday season. To many, it is much more than just picking out presents, it is a chance to make someone else’s holiday just as special as theirs. As the program expands, it will continue to reach more families who are struggling and are in need of help. Together, the community is able to come together and show what the holiday spirit is all about. Whether a donor buys one item or fills an entire tag, each contribution helps brighten a child’s holiday, reflecting the generosity and compassion that define the season for many community members.
