POV: Survival of the Top-Lot
By Josi Patti
When the school year rolls around, I am still in the summer mindset that I have been encapsulated in for the past three months. However, I never doubt myself to dial-in on one requirement: securing the perfect parking spot in the mornings.
Being a senior comes with much responsibility. First, our main job is to teach the underclassmen how to behave; we are the “top dogs” or the role models. In doing so, take my following remarks as a way to stay prompt and serve as a guide to securing yourself the sweetest ride home.
In the morning, I set around ten alarms. You may wonder: Why should my backpack already be packed, lunch bag secured and ready for take-off, and why am I sleeping in my outfit for tomorrow? Well, the answer is quite simple: you will never attain a top-lot spot without leaving your house at a prompt time. I slather on that makeup, shove down my breakfast, snatch my keys, and bolt for the door at lightning speed. Welcome to the reality of the parking plights.
I already previously have all my favorite jams queued up on Spotify for the pleasant ride to school. Having high hopes for no traffic congestion, I glide through each intersection. Yet life sometimes has its ways of being unpredictable. Just as I am cruising down the road and whistling to my delightful tunes, I hit a red light. I yelp, Today is not the day.
I pull into the gas station as a shortcut and break through the long-awaiting light that has “back lot” written all over it. I safely enter the school parking lot, and in all my glory, I meet the most prized parking spot that is parked exactly where I envisioned it to be. And that’s how you survive a morning in the parking lot.
