Rushing in to the Regular Season

By Brooke Hathaway

Unionville Offense vs Boyertown Defense

Friday night lights have begun! Unionville football is back in action, but like every good team they have their highs and lows. So far, the team is on a roll, winning the last three games in a row.

Quarterback Chase Johnson, junior, has all the pressure on him this season. He agrees that “as a starting quarterback, the game relies on you.” He knows what the standard is. However, he believes it's the same reason he loves the position: “Being able to lead the players, control the game, and connect the team as one is what makes this sport unlike any other.” The most impactful part of being on the team, for Chase, is the community. He says that he can trust his entire team, from the offensive line protecting him, to the defensive line keeping the offense in the game.

Of course, Chase is not the only one who has attributed their success to the strong team dynamic. Junior Daqaun Hovington says, “the best part about being on the team is all the friendships I get to build through the sport.” He believes that football brings people together outside the classroom. “It is a chance to meet guys who, in school, you wouldn't have the chance to meet.”

Hovington also believes that the season has been a success so far; however, there is always room for improvement. While the team struggled in their first game, they have made a strong comeback. Their winning streak will be tested against Kennett, our cross-town rivals. Johnson believes their edge is their camaraderie. More importantly, being able to trust the guys they are working with to win changes the game. So, as the team rallies and rests before the Homecoming game Friday, they will rely on both the connections with each other and the hard work they put in every day.
