Welcoming Coach Regenye

By Vivek Koppisety

Varsity Coaching Staff at Opening Meeting

Unionville baseball is starting a new chapter! Mr. Regenye has been named the new varsity baseball coach, and he is returning to the program where he started his career. As a Longhorn baseball player himself, Regenye helped host the program’s first home district game in 20 years in 2021. He went on to play baseball in center field as a three-year starter at Misericordia University, made back-to-back College World Series appearances in 2023 and 2024, and won the National Championship his junior year. His hope is to bring both his experience and success back to the Unionville program.

Now that the fall season is underway, our new coach is focused on more than just wins. “I’m most excited about building strong relationships with the players and guiding their growth, not just as athletes on the field, but as young adults off it,” he shared. His focus is to guide the team, both as a mentor and coach.

At the center of his plan is the “Longhorn 9,” a set of nine leadership principles that includes accountability, respect, and perseverance. “Just as nine players on the field work individually toward a shared goal,” he explained, the principles help create a “unified culture of success.” That outlook comes from what he loves about the game. “It’s a game where failure teaches you far more than success ever could,” he says. By striving to lead these individuals as young men, not just baseball players, he plans to take his team to new heights.

So, building that connection with his players and fellow coaches doesn’t stop when the games do. Throughout the fall and winter, the team will hold regular lifting sessions to build physical strength alongside team culture. The Longhorns will also use their Lunch and Learn periods for informal team meetings, giving players dedicated time to hang out, bond, and enjoy talking to their teammates outside of baseball.

So what would a successful first season look like? Not just a winning record. “True success for our team will be when our culture becomes contagious,” Coach Regenye said, “where every fan, coach, and opposing team can visibly feel the connection and unity within our program.” Mr. Regenye is committed to making a great season for Unionville baseball, and hopes to improve his connections with each member of the team.

Longhorn fans, be sure to show your support and welcome your new varsity coach this season!
